Initially, Rafael Nadal was chosen as the Spanish athlete to bear the honour of carrying the Spanish flag at the London Olympics opening ceremony.

However, Nadal's knee injury that he suffered in Wimbledon hasn't been merciful to Nadal's hopes and finally, after a great effort and training intensification, Nadal decided he is not ready to play at the Olympics.
