What is Ceroc?

The name Ceroc comes from the French 'C'est Rock' or 'It's rock'. It's a form of partner dance based on jive, salsa and other forms; the idea may have come from France but Ceroc in its present form was developed in England. It is now practised in venues all over the world, though it's still most popular in the UK.
The big attraction of Ceroc is that beginners can very quickly reach a point of being able to get through a dance, though there are hundreds of moves and some people go on learning for years.
A class usually starts by teaching 3 beginner dance moves out of a possible 12, so after about 6 weeks you will have seen all the beginner moves and be able to put them together to make your own routine. The beginners are then given more intensive practice while those with 6 or more weeks' experience can go on with intermediate moves. There is also a freestyle session where everyone can practise whatever they want.
