Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar) has been famous for its gem mines. The Mogaung area, especially in the path of the famous WWII Burma Road, is the only commercial source of jadeite that produces finest green emerald.

The Burma Road built in 1937-1938 links Burma to Southwest of China (e.g. Kunming, Yunan) and is about 717 miles long. Read more here.
