How does globalization affect the world?

Globalization has meant that people in one country can buy almost anything from any other country, provided they can afford it of course. This has led to a huge variety for modern consumers, even on a simple everyday level - for example, fresh fruit from all over the world, at all seasons of the year. A problem is that it can also mean greater fuel consumption and transport costs as goods are moved around the world.
It also means that, for example, a business based in one country can own large amounts of assets or companies in another. This has led to great flexibility and often cheaper prices, especially when a company moves production from a high wage country to a lower wage one. However, it can also mean unemployment in some countries and exploitation (people working very hard for low wages) in others. There have also been problems with essential services, such as water, being owned and run by people from outside that country - this has happened in the UK and other places.
