Are cat owners more depressive than dog owners?

There has been some research into differences between cat and dog owners, especially the question of whether there is such a thing as a cat or dog person - ie, a personality type.
Some differences do seem to exist. Research suggests that more dog lovers may be extrovert people, with cat owners more inclined to neurosis. Cat lovers were also seen to be more open, meaning less conventional and more interested in new ideas etc.
So while 'depressive' is rather a strong word, there is some evidence that people who like dogs may be less inclined to low spirits and more cheerful. In a way it makes sense: if you get a dog you have to take it out, probably run around with it and interact with other owners. With a cat you can stay at home by the fire!
However, when you consider that most people llke both dogs and cats, it's probably not a good idea to generalise much about 'types'.
