The Italian writer Antonio Tabucchi was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1943 and died in Lisboa today. Apart from being a writer, he was also an essayist and literary critic specialised in the work of Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.

He has written more than 15 novels since 1975, when he wrote Piazza d'Italia. After that, one of his most famous novels was Pereira Maintains (Sostiene Pereira), written in 1994 and adapted to cinema in 1996 by Roberto Faenza.
