Why is the Discovery retiring?

The Discovery space shuttle has been finally put to rest after more than 28 years, 365 days and 148 million miles of service in space.

the reason why the discovery retires is thus its age. The space shuttle has become too old to cope with the burning temperatures of the atmosphere.

Actually, the propellants and other chemical products that helped the shuttle steer in space and protected its surface have been removed before being exposed to the public because they were too toxic.

From now on the Discovery shuttle will sleep in the Smithsonian museum for display.
