Why has the colony of bees declined dramatically?

It has been reported that the population of bees has dramatically dropped to 50% in the last 25 years. this is very worrying as bees are crucial for the pollination of plants and flowers that give us much of our vegetable produce.

The causes of the drop of bee population are still elusive. This issue needs to be understood from a wider perspective than simply a cause and effect framework. There are several interrelated factors in the drop of bee population and one of them is the diversity of bee diets.

The more varied bees diet is, the more proteins they have to strengthen their inmune system against disease. this i closely related to the increase in monoculture, especially in the US and in the UK, which leads to less varieties of flowers and plants from which bees can feed.

In addition to this, the use of pesticides and our changing climate accelerate the destruction of flower-rich habitats, therefore, reducing bee's diets. Bees feeding different types of flowers have higher levels of glucose oxidase, as it is claimed by French scientists at the National Institute for Agricultural Research in Avignon.
