Officially there is only one Chinese author who has won Nobel Prize. Novelist Mo Yan won the Nobel prize in literature 2012, which made him makes him the first Chinese author to win the Nobel in its one hundred and eleven year history. Prior to Mo Yan, another Chinese born writer Gao Xingjian won the Nobel prize in 2000 as a French citizen. Gao grew up in China and fled to France in 1987 due to political suppress.
