How do I clean a chopping board?

It depends on the material of the chopping board..

For wooden chopping boards:

  • Scrub it with a stiff brush and hot soapy water. If you have been cutting raw meat on it, sprinkle the board with a bit salt and scrub it with the brush to disinfect.
  • Since wood does not work well with water, do not leave it to soak.
  • Dry the board well with a tea towel
  • Put the board upright to prevent warping
  • Use butcher block oil to oil your boards when the surface seems dry

For polypropylene/plastic chopping boards, you can wash them in the dishwasher. Or you wash them in the sink like the rest of the washing up.
