Thalidomide caused unexpected damage to the development of thousands of babies. The drug was originally developed as a sleeping bill, but was used by pregnant women to ease morning sickness in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

As a result, over 10,000 babies were affected with stunted growth to the legs and arms. Thalidomide is banned to use now.
