Today, April the 30th 2012, it's the first International Jazz Day in history. This event was launched in November 2011 at a meeting of the UNESCO General Conference.

The reason why this event was created is to raise awareness of jazz music as a tool of social transformation, education and fight against oppression as jazz music is rooted in slavery.
