Why should I be careful to use the word Spanish "coger" in some Latin American countries?

The spanish word "coger" has a wide range of meanings but mainly means "to take". In Spain we say "coger el bus" (take the bus), "coger la sal" (grab the salt) or "coger un resfirado" (catch a cold").
However, this word has a different meaning in countries like Mexico where the word "coger" actually means, colloquially, to have sexual intercourse but not in Colombia, where it has the same meaning as in Spanish. This word also has coarse and rough connotations in Venezuela and in Argentina.
So you better be careful when you travel to a Latin American country and say that you want to "coger el bus"!!
