The great Mayan Civilization started to collapse around 750 AD after thousand years of prosperity. The destruction of the Mayan civilization still remains mistery to many historians. However, most of them seem to agree that the collapse of the Mayan civilisation is caused by peasant revolts.

Maya is a society with strict hierarchies: nobles and priests are the wealthiest and have the most power whereas most of normal people working as peasants or slaves. So it was inevitable that a revolt occurred, i.e. peasants and slaves either drove out the ruling groups or massacred them.

Epidemic disease, environmental disasters and climate change might also be the causes of the Maya collapse. The study has found the evidence of agricultural land exhaustion, megafauna overhunting and intense drought. For out more, check here.
