The first Ryder Cup Matches was held in US in 1927. The US team captained by Walter Hagen won the first Ryder Cup Match.

Only US-born players were allowed to join the Team. The team members were Walter Hagen, Leo Diegel, Johnny Farrell, Johnny Golden, Bill Mehlhorn, Gene Sarazen, Joe Turnesa and Al Watrous and reserves were Mike Brady and Al Espinosa.
