Salvador Dali was a Spanish Surrealist painter born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain.
He was influenced by the Reinassance Masters, specially by Velazquez, but the majority of his work was Surrealist. He belonged to this later movement until he was expelled from it by Andre Breton.
He was a perfectionist draughtsman and did work in different forms and media such as Painting, Drawing, Film, Jewelry Design, etc.
His personality was provocative and he considered himself a genius.
His body of work was huge and popular; we can mention the painting The Persistence of Memory and the film he wrote with his friend Luis Buñuel, Un Chien Andalou.
He was married to his muse Gala and were together since 1929 until her death in 1982.
