What's the best neighbourhood to live in Cambridge, UK?

Cambridge generally is considered a desirable place to live with its fantastic history, world class university and many amenities. However, that means it is expensive. The average house price at present is over £340,000 and prices are rising faster in Cambridge than elsewhere. Detached houses regularly cost over half a million pounds.

So it's not surprising to hear that the city is full of good areas - the problem is being able to afford any of them. A lot of people are opting for the new developments that are going up, out of the city centre but still not too far from the amenities, and especially those along the river. You can see a selection of such properties here.

On the other hand, to get the real flavour of Cambridge, many people would choose an older building in the old city if they can afford it. That's why a lot of people choose the rented sector instead - you can get some information on this here.
