LED TVs are Technically LCD TV because the screen on both are liquid crystal displays (i.e. LCD). The main difference between LED TVs and LCD TVs is how the LCD display screen is lighted.

An LCD display has two layers of glass with the liquid crystals which pass or block the light from a series of lamps at the back of the screen. LED TVs use Light Emitting Diodes,(i.e. LED) whilst LCD TVs use fluorescent lamps for the lights at the back of the screen.

In general, LED TVs have better black levels, more color accuracy, and better contrasts than LCD TVs. If you want the best in picture quality, I would recommend a LED TV use full-array back lighting with local dimming. However, most LED TVs in the shop use edge lighting which enable the ultimate slim stylish look. LED TVs consume 30% less power than its LCD counterparts.
