Based on the level of respect or formality, you can say "I don't understand" in Korean in 3 ways:

  • Informal: na-neun ihae-haji mot-hae (나는 이해하지 못해), ihae-reul mot-hagetseo (이해를 못하겠어)
  • Formal: jeo-neun ihae-haji mot-haeyo (저는 이해하지 못해요), jeo-neun ihae-haji mot-hapnida (저는 이해하지 못 합니다), ihae-reul mot-hagetseupnida (이해를 못하겠습니다)
  • Very Formal: jeo-neun ihae-haji mot-hapnida (저는 이해하지 못합니다), jeo-neun ihae-reul mot-hagetseupnida (저는 이해를 못 하겠습니다)

- I: na-neun (나는), jeo-neun (저는)
- to understand: ihae-hada (이해하다)
