There are signs that Spain may be forced to ask for another bailout soon, and the Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, has indicated that he will do it if Spain's borrowing costs get too high.
To qualify for more assistance, Spain has to implement more budgest cuts and should reduce its deficit. This will involve some deeply unpopular measures like freezing pensions - which will then effectively shrink due to inflation - and making further cuts to public services. Public sector wages are likely to be frozen in the upcoming budget, and some ministries, including agriculture, are facing cuts of up to 30%. Tax breaks will also be cut. The country's finances will also have to be audited independently, which effectively gives Spain less financial control.
When Spain receives its next credit rating on Friday, the Spanish government will know whether to ask for aid or not: But the budget cuts show that it is already preparing to meet the Eurozone's conditions for aid.
