The Canary islands are a beautiful group of islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Morocco. Their beauty lies in the incredible volcanic formations of its landscape that endow it with a unique , lunar, out-of-this-world enchant.

The islands are part of Spain although their history predates contact with Spanish in the first half of the 14th century. The early inhabitants of the islands are called the Guanches. The Guanches were a nomadic that used to occupy the north of Africa so they arrived to the islands with their goats, sheep and dogs and are thus related to the Berbers of north Africa. The Guanche population of the island ebcame almost extinct due to violent contact with Spanish colonisers.

Actually, Guanche comes from Guan Chenech, which means "man from Chenech" when "chenech" is the root for Tenerife, teh most important island of the archipelago.
