The first female driver to ever race in NASCAR was Sara Christian, who compited in 1949 and 1950. But Sara was not only the first woman but also ended up in the 5th position at the Heidelberg Raceway in Pittsburgh, which was the best position for a woman until 2011.

Other women that have made it successfully into NASCAR are Shawna Robinson, who is the first woman driver to win NASCAR in the Goody's Dash series, and Danica Patrick, who is the only woman to win the IndyCar Series, and who came 3rd in the Indianapolis 500, the best position for a woman ever in that category.
