Will we even have smartphones in 2030? By that time there will probably be new technologies we haven't even heard of yet, so there's no knowing what we will be using. However, the most common prediction is that nanotechnology will have changed our communication devices hugely, so that they are much smaller and more powerful than they are now. Other ideas include solar powered smartphones and smartphones that you just throw away after one use.
It seems more likely that we will be using phones - or some small hand-held device, even if it isn't called a phone - to fulfil more and more functions. Already you can predict that we will be using more existing technologies like cloud storage, to keep ever more data so we can access it on the move. Apps will surely also get more sophisticated - future phones will do things we haven't yet thought of. Some people even think we will have a chip or other device actually inserted in our brains, so functions are carried out instantly - though this is an idea most of us don't like.
