Roger Federer has won this tournament six times in total. His first win was in 2003 when he beat Andre Agassi, then he took the title again in 2004 against Lleyton Hewitt. He had two more successive wins in 2006 and 2007, against Blake and Ferrer respectively. He then beat Rafael Nadal in 2010 and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2011.
He was also runner-up in 2005, so the ATP has been a hugely successful event for him overall.
Federer was widely expected to win this year (2012) as well, especially after he beat UK champion Andy Murray in the semi-finals, but he has now been defeated in the final by Novak Djokovic.
Despite this loss, Federer has had many successes in 2012. He won Wimbledon for the 7th time this year, was awarded a gold medal at the Olympics and won at least three other titles. He has said he is eager to carry on and looking forward to his next match.
