There are companies, like Colortyme, which instal rental agent software openly and you can remove it from your list of programs in the same way as you would remove any other program. However, in the case of the software from Designerware, which has caused a recent scandal, at the moment there doesn't appear to be any way you can remove it.

This company have used PC Rental Agent to capture screen images, including intimate webcam images, from their customers. They have also used a window that looks like a software registration screen, to get people to fill in personal information which is then stored.

Dsignerware have been told this practice is illegal, but they have not been fined and no further legal proceedings have been taken against them. However, they have been stopped from using these methods in the future and the stores which rent out the computers will not be able to use information obtained in this way.
