When did North Korean leader Kim Jong-il die?

Kim Jong-il died on 17th December 2011 at the age of 69. According to the North Korea's state media, the cause of the death was heart attack.

Leading 24 million people with absolute power for 17 years, Kim Jong-il was ranked 31st in Forbes Magazine's List of The World's Most Powerful People in 2010.

Kim Jong-il's father Kim Il Sung is North Korea founder who also died of a heart attack. After his death in 1994, Kim Jong-il inherited his power, which was the first hereditary succession in the communist world.

Now, Kim Jong-il's son Kim Jong-un is the third generation supreme leader of North Korea.
