Demba Ba was born in 1985 in France, in the area of Sevres (a part of Paris). His family later moved to the small Normandy (northern France) town of St Valerie en Caux, where he grew up. He began playing football very early with local youth teams, and in 2005 (aged 20) joined Rouen, the major team in the area where he lived. He has played for many other sides since then, including other French and German teams, and in the UK also played for West Ham United and Newcastle. He moved to Chelsea early in 2013.
Demba Ba's roots are in Senegal, where many of his family still live, and he also plays for the Senegal national team, often called the Lions of Teranga. He has been with them since 2007.
