Equestrian is not precisely one of the most famous Olympic sports although it has quite a large and faithful group of followers. When you see the horses in the competition one thinks that's all it gets to this sport but actually there's more to it than seeing horses jumping fences. The olympic equestrian competition consists of three disciplines: Jumping, dressage and eventing.

Jumping consists of the horse being ridden to jump over a variety of obstacles like water jumps and parallel rails in as short a time as possible.

Dressage is different and consists of the rider and horse performing a number of highly tehcnical movments known as dressage. In the manner of gymnastics, a panel decides to award a grade for individual movements and overall routine.

Finally, we have eventing. This discipline consists of a combination of dressage exercises, a cross country test and a jumping test. Basically, in this discipline, errors are penalised and taken on to the next stage.
