How can I focus and study better in the evenings?

Actually, studying very early in the mornings has been proven to be more effective than studying in the 'evenings'. In fact, ''evenings' have plenty of distractions, temptations, and -- not to mention -- the possibility of you being very tired after the full day passes by.

Either ways, if you plan to study in the evenings and if you need help to focus, there are ways to do it:

  • Come back home and take a hot shower ( or cold) -- whatever works best for you.
  • Shut yourself in a room or lock yourself up. Make sure your room has ambient light conditions that go easy on you while you are studying.
  • Whatever it is that you are focusing on, don't try to listen to music while you study. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't help in focusing on the task at hand. It helps when you have to do something monotonous but not when you have to try hard to understand and internalize something.
  • Work in spurts of one hour or 2 hour breaks ( also called as the Pommodoro Technique). It works like this -- work for an hour or two ( this is intense, no non-sense, absolutely focused work), take a 5-10 minute break. Get back to work again.

I hope this helps?
