Christmas in Spain is celebrated pretty much in a similar way as in the rest of the world.
However there are a many traditions that are very unique of Spain (and other Spanish speaking countries), for example:
-Children do get toys from Santa in Christmas Eve but traditionally they wait for the three Wise Men to bring them toys too the night of the 6th of January (Epiphany). This makes the Christmas Holidays longer than the other countries with the kids starting school on January 7th.
-On the 28th of December it is Saint Innocents Day, a day to fool your friends (similar to April's Fools Day).
-On New Year's Eve is tradition to eat the 12 lucky grapes. They should be eaten, one with every chime of the clock that announces the New Year. If you eat the 12 of them it is said that you will have a lucky year.
-Christmas is the season to eat Turron, a sweet elaborated with almonds and honey.
Christmas traditions change are numerous in Spain and vary from province to province and even from town to town. To check a calendar of this year's Christmas events and get more info please check:
