5g, or 5th generation mobile networks, is not likely to be implemented until around 2020, so of course many things can change in that time. Previously new generations have offered a large increase in the peak bitrate, but this may not be the case with 5g. Instead, it is thought that it may offer a higher bitrate over more of the coverage area. Judging from the research work that is now being done, it seems likely that 5g will also be more economical; battery use should be more efficient, with better backup in case of power failures and lower general costs for use.
It is expected that with 5g, users will be able to use more different networks and devices and move easily from one to the other. There should also be a big emphasis on group use - the whole area of videoconferencing etc will be bigger, more used and more effective.
