One of the most important and famous and legendary Australian bands is AC/DC formed by Brian Johnson (singer), Angus Young (lead guitar), Malcolm Young (guitar), Cliff williams (bass), and Phil Rudd (drums).

Another great Australian band is Midnight Oil, who became very famous in Europe during the 80's with their politically-charged songs like "Beds are Burning" (which deals with the issue of Indigenous land rights in Australia) and "Put Down your Weapon", an anti militarist anthem. Midnight Oil is formed by Peter Garrett (vocals) Jim Moginie (guitar), Rob Hirst (drums), Andrew James (bass), and Martin Rotsey (guitar).

INXS, a famous pop band of the late 80's and early 90's is also from Australia and had a massive hit with Suicide Blonde and New Sensation. Also, singer John Farnham became very popular in the 80's with his great song The Voice. Pop singers Kylie Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia are also from Australia.

A special mention to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, whose poetic sadness has gained a large following across the world.
