Has any unmanned mission ever landed in Pluto?

So far, no. In 2006 NASA dispatched an unmanned spacecraft to go to the outer edges of our solar system. The craft is called New Horizons and is meant to explore space by going as close to planets as possible but not actually land on them. This craft has already passed Jupiter and sent back huge amounts of information; in 2015 if all goes well it is scheduled to fly past Pluto and then beyond.
From this craft we should learn a lot more about Pluto and its moons, the exact number of which isn't known yet. It is already known that Pluto is inhospitable to life, being extremely cold (about minus 230 degrees celsius) and also very small (about a sixth of the size of the Moon). In fact there is still a debate about whether it should be called a planet at all. It is now officially categorised as a dwarf planet.
