How do I remove wax from silver candlesticks?

You may heard that freezing silver candlesticks can remove wax, but this is a misconcept. Most of the silver candlesticks are not made of 100% silver. They often contain other metals in addition to silver. Since different metals contract at different rates, the shock of freezing can cause the metal to split.

Generally, candlesticks can be divided into two types: hollow candlesticks and candlesticks with a resin base. It is easier to clean a hollow candlestick. Run it under the hot tap and then prise out the wax with a wooden cocktail stick. Once the big bits of wax are removed, rinse it again unter the hot tap to remove the rest. Dry it thoroughly with a soft duster, then polish it with a silver cleaning cloth.
It is trickier to remove wax from a candlestick with a resin base because the inside metal can be corroded if it is immersed in water. Use a hairdryer with a low heat to soften the wax, and try not to direct the heat on the same spots for too long. Once the wax gets soft, prise it off with a wood cocktail stick. Finally, polish it with a silver polish cloth.

Tips:
You can avoid all the hussel if you use non-drip candles
Put a candle in the freezer for two hours to make it last longer.
