To block Farmville requests is supposed to be very simple. The next time someone sends you a request or invitation to play Farmville, you can look under it and you should see a link with the title ‘Block this application’. If you click the link and then click Ok this should prevent any more requests from arriving. Or if you are on Farmville two, you should go the app centre – just click here – and look down the right hand side of the page. You will come to a short menu – the first choice is Visit App page and the third is Block, which is the one you want.
At any rate this is the advice given by Facebook – but some users complain that it doesn’t work and they still get a lot of invitations from Farmville. You can of course contact Facebook to ask about this, but replies can take a long time to arrive, and you may find they just tell you to do the same thing you have already done!
You can also go to the main Facebook App Center and look under All Games on the top left. There you can find a link to Farmville, or any other game that you would like to stop, and click on the link to Block it as described above. In the App Center you can also find individual requests: go back to the list on the left hand side and scroll down it until you come to the Requests link. If you click that, you can see a list of all the people who have sent you invitations to play various games and so on (lately there have been a lot of Candy Crush requests, which work in a very similar way to Farmville ones). You can then choose Accept or Ignore for individual people if that is what you prefer, or you can go to all the requests to play a particular game – such as Farmville – and refuse them all at the same time. You can see this guide for more details.
Farmville was hugely popular a few years ago, and its players were often very keen to involve all their friends in it. This is nothing unusual – everyone wants to share a new hobby or interest with their friends, and the internet makes this so easy – but Farmville requests seemed to be especially annoying for some reason, and you can find a huge number of online articles asking or answering the question: how do I block Farmville requests. I think there may be two reasons why so many people feel this way.
One reason is probably that Farmville was one of the first online games where it was usual to invite people to join you, so a lot of people who weren’t used to getting this sort of request were very puzzled by them – now anyone who uses social media is used to getting lots of invitations even if they don’t bother to accept them.
The other reason, I suspect, is in the nature of the game itself. The whole idea of building up an imaginary farm isn’t a lot of people’s idea of fun, and then the requests you get do look quite strange if you don’t know anything about the game. So, if someone invites you to play online Scrabble, at least you know what they are talking about. But if you get a request to help someone to ‘lead a little lamb home’ which I remember was the first Farmville one I saw, it doesn’t make a lot of sense, and if you don’t want to play the game it can soon become annoying.
