'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' is based in a comic book serial written by Alan Moore ('Watchmen', 'V for Vendetta') and with art by Kevin O'Neill, printed for first time in 1990. The first two mini series, of 6 issues each, were published by DC/Wildstorm and the third mini series and a graphic novel ('The Black Dossier') were published by Knockabout Comics/Top Shelf.
Alan Moore said that the idea behind the series was to create a "Victorian" Justice League of America.
A film of this comic was produced in 2003, directed by Stephen Norrington and starred by Sean Connery, Naseeruddin Shah and Peta Wilson.
