Question

Should we be worried about a collision with the wandering planet Nibiru?

No, the whole idea of this wandering planet is just a fantasy. The name comes from the ancient Akkadian language and the meaning is something like 'crossing' or 'transition'. It was used in the Babylonian era by astronomers to refer to the summer solstice. Later it was also used in religious language in Babylon to indicate the home of the god Marduk. Marduk came to be seen as the chief of the gods, and there was a connection between him and the planet that later came to be called Jupiter.
The name Nibiru was later taken up by an American author, Zecharia Stitchin, who invented a story about a race of alien beings from a distant planet of that name. He claimed that there was a basis for his work in ancient mythologies, but in fact his conclusions are based on misreadings, bad translations and, mainly, pure invention.
More recently (1995) another American, Nancy Lieder, became convinced that she had received warnings about a crash between this giant planet and the Earth (originally 2003, but when nothing happened she changed the date).
So if you want to place a bet that we will still be here in 2014, you will probably be quite safe in doing so!
