Why wasn't the word "terrorist" used by the media to refer to Anders Breivik's attacks?

Anders Breivik is a right wing extremist who became famous after his attack on a youth camp in Norway's island of Utoya where he killed 67 people in July 22 2011.
However, what seemed to be a clear act of extremist terrorism was defined by the most mainstream media as the act of an insane psychopath. Today, Anders Breivik has been declared sane by a norwegian five-judge panel.
If we look at the definition of terrorism in Webster's online dictionary, it says that terrorism is "the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature". According to this definition, Breivik's attack qualifies as terrorism because he claims the goal of his act was to save European civilisation from other races and religions.
Mainstream media's refusal to use the term "terrorist" for Breivik reveals a political bias that does not seem benefitial to truth and to the victims of the attack.
