As part of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Masters 1000, Shanghai Masters is held in Shanghai every October since 2009. In 2010, Shanghai Masters was renamed as Shanghai Rolex Masters following Rolex sponsorship deal.

Andy Murray has won Shanghai Rolex Masters twice - 2010 and 2011. Roger Federer was 2010 runner up (3-6, 2-6) and David Ferrer was 2011 runner up (5-1, 4-6).

There is a hope that the Scottish player may won his third Shanghai Masters in 2012 as he already reached semi-final at the moment of writing.
