The Silk Road gets its name from the Chinese silk trade, which began during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE).
The Silk Routes, extending 6,500 km (4,000 miles), were important trade routes for all kinds of goods between merchants from Ancient China, India, the Persian Empire and Mediterranean countries for nearly three thousand years.
