The Tallest Man recorded in history was Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 – July 15, 1940). Wadlow reached a height of 8ft 11.1 inches at his death aged 22.

Wadlow’s size and continued growth was due to hypertrophy of his pituitary gland which resulted in abnormally high levels of growth hormone. Even at the time of his death he showed no indication of an end to his growth.
