This two-part drama aired TV in Britain in early January 2012. It's an adaptation of a novel by Charles Dickens, which was left unfinished when he died in 1870. In Dickens' novel, Edwin is a young man who attracts the jealousy of his uncle, John Jasper, who is obsessed with Edwin's fiancee, Rosa, and wants to marry her. When Edwin disappears and is apparently murdered, Jasper tries to throw suspicion on a young visitor, Neville Landless, with whom Edwin had quarrelled.

The series finishes the story, trying to tie up all the loose ends Dickens left and provide some new twists. It wouldn't be fair to reveal the ending, but there are some surprises - though it's a pity they didn't do more research into how Victorians actually spoke and behaved. In fact scriptwriter Gwyneth Hughes isn't the first complete this novel - several people have tried. Some of Dickens' contemporaries even staged a mock trial of John Jasper!
