What's the best place in the world to watch the Milky Way?

The answer to that is everywhere - and nowhere. The fact is that you can see the Milky Way from everywhere on Earth, and you don't need a telescope although you will of course see a lot more if you have one. But in order to see it you need to be in a place of absolute darkness, and now that the majority of people live in cities it can be quite difficult to get to somewhere with no street lighting. Once you have managed that, you also need a clear night, and some time - probably several minutes - for your eyes to get used to the darkness. You can also see the Milky Way most clearly in the summer, so in the northern hemisphere the best month is July.
Since we are a part of the Milky Way, it makes sense that you can see it from anywhere on the planet. It contains at least 200 billion stars and perhaps many more.
