It's not possible to get an accurate list of inhabited castles online. If you need this exact information you should probably apply to the Scottish Tourist Board and use the contact section to ask someone directly.

On the same website, though, you can find plenty of information about some of Scotland's more remarkable castles. One of these is Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. This is the oldest castle that has been continuously lived in, and in fact the same family (the heads of the MacLeod clan) have lived there for over 800 years. The castle is full of historical treasures and is also famous for its gardens.

The most internationally famous of all Scottish castles are probably Edinburgh, which has a fantastic position overlooking the city, and Balmoral, which is the Queen's private residence. Glamis Castle is also known to many foreign visitors for its mention in Shakespeare's Macbeth and for being the childhood home of the late Queen Mother.
