Transcendence is a newly released film which stars Johnny Depp with Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman.
In the film Depp plays a scientist named Will Caster, who is working on a computer that is 'alive' with human feelings and also has the full sum of human knowledge. A gang of dissidents believe that the results of his inventions will be a disaster for humanity, and they poison him. However, before the poison can take effect Dr Caster manages to find a way to upload his consciousness onto this new computer. Eventually there is a fight between the forces of new technology on one hand, and those who believe it may be better to abandon all modern inventions rather than let the world be 'taken over' on the other.
Despite the famous cast the film has had mixed reviews so far; it is too early to say how well it will do at the box office. You can read some comments on the film here.
