Ray Bradbury wrote huge numbers of short stories and several novels. Out of everything he wrote the most famous are probably the Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 541.

The Martian Chronicles is a book of short stories, published in 1950 and based on the adventures of a group of humans who have to leave Earth and build a new life on Mars. Written at a time when people thought there might really be life on Mars, it was hugely popular and had an influence on many other writers, including Stephen King.

Fahrenheit 451 is named for the temperature at which paper burns. It is set in an imaginary future in which books are banned as being subversive, and nobody is allowed to learn to read. A group of people secretly rebel against the system. The book is usually seen as being about censorship, but Bradbury said he was more concerned about whether television would stop people wanting to read.
