THe name of the new royal baby was announced yesterday, just two days after he was born, and the full name is George Alexander Louis. This means that if and when the new prince becomes king he will be George VII; for now though, he is to be known as Prince George of Cambridge and should later become Prince of Wales when his father Prince William becomes king.
George was the obvious choice for the prince's name and was the bookie's favourite. It was his great-grandfather's name (George VI, who was king during Word War II and whose life is partly shown in the film The King's Speech). Also among the other previously used royal names, in many cases the last one of that name was associated with some kind of problem or scandal. For example. The last King James was deposed and replaced by his daughter and son-in-law, and the last Edward abdicated.
