The music of the song Beyond the Sea was based in the french song La Mer composed by Charles Trenet and lyrics by Jack Lawrence.
Trenet's version spoke literally about the sea while in the english version they added the word 'beyond' that transformed the theme into a melancholic love song.
It has been recorded by many artists but Bobby Darin's version remains the most popular and succesful, reaching the #6 in the Billboard of 1959.
