The overall winner was China, with 95 gold medals as well as 71 silver and 65 bronze. One swimmer, Yang Yang, won a total of four medals which was also the highest for a single athlete that year. China was also the overall winner in the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 with 89 gold medals.
In second place this year was Russia with 36 gold medals, twice as many as the Russian team won in Beijing.
The UK was third with 34 golds - actually less than at Beijing when the count was 42.
The biggest change in ranking was in the USA, which ended up in 6th place as opposed to 3rd place in 2008. This year the US won 31 gold medals.
Ukraine was in 4th place and Australia 5th.
The very high number of athletes competing this year, as well as the high audience figures, show how important the Paralympics have become and how much effort individual countries are putting into them now.
