Many pregnant women like to go on a holiday as it maybe the last chance of time together with their partners for some years. It is not advisable to fly during pregnancy if you have a history of high blood pressure or premature labour.

Pregnant women are at increased risk of deep vein thrombosis. If you have to take a long flight, you should get up often, stretch your legs, and walk around. Wear supportive flight socks to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis, and drink plenty water to prevent dehydration.

If you are suffering from pregnancy sickness, ask for a seat over the wings, because the ride is less bump there. Try not to take travel sickness medicine although most of them are safe for pregnant women. Instead, you can wear ‘travel bands’ on your wrist. Travel bands are stretchy band that work on the acupressure point to reduce nausea.

Do not fly in an unpressurised aircraft as it can reduce the oxygen supply to you and baby.

You may not be able to board on a flight after 34 weeks pregnancy as most airlines have a policy in place.
